Need for Speed: Nitro was announced as a three pack of games in the Need for Speed Series along with Shift and World. Nitro is aimed towards more casual gamers and is an arcade styled Nintendo exclusive game, it primarily focuses on fun and enjoyment as opposed to being realistic.

Need for Speed: Nitro includes the feature of 'Own It', where the landscape of the race track changes with the race leader. The landscape changes to the colour of the race leader's car. The landscape includes things such as graffiti tags and general paint colour of the the track sides.
