[edit] Overview

Need for Speed: Carbon is a sequel to Need for Speed: Most Wanted. Carbon returns to night time racing while its predessor Need for Speed: Most Wanted was set during the day. It is set in a fictitious city of Palmont City and brings a return of Drift racing last seen in Underground 2, but drops Drag style from Most Wanted.

[edit] The Storyline

You start out with a movie of a race before you left. You are racing Angie, Kenji, and Wolf. You are in a Toyota Supra from Darius you win the race, but something happens. Cops suddenly surround you and the other racers. They disable the cars in the race except yours. Everyone gets arrested so Nikki throws you the bag, and you find it has been switched. Darius tells you to take his car and get away from here. You drive off to Rockport City to get the heat off you. This is where the storyline of Most Wanted comes in.

You came back from Rockport City down the canyon in your BMW M3 GTR. While driving towards Palmont, Cross, now a bounty hunter former police officer in Most Wanted begins to pursue you, you must escape from him down the canyon, but your car is totaled at the end.

Then Darius comes to the rescue and gets rid of Cross, he then recognizes you. You used to race for him but stopped after the race where you left. Now you have to race for him again to make up for the absence. Then your former girlfriend, Nikki shows up and is angry for you leaving. She tries to attack you.

Darius stops her, then tells her to show you the ropes, She then drives you to where you meet Neville & you get your first car, a Mazda RX-8 (Tuner), Alfa Romeo Brera (Exotic), or a Chevrolet Camaro SS (396), (Muscle). Whichever car class you choose will later be the class of Sal and Neville, it also determines which section of Palmont City you will start in. Then Nikki teaches you about the Crew feature and the different types of wingmen, Blockers, Drafters, and Scouts. When she leaves, you and Neville get in a Police Pursuit, when you escape you meet up at the Safehouse and your journey begins.

Some new features added to Need for Speed: Carbon are:

  • Autosculpt - Allows you to customize your bumpers, side skirts, spoilers, roof scoops, hoods, even rims.
  • Canyon Races (Also called Touge Races in Japan)

The soundtrack consists of Electronic, Hip Hop and Rock genre music a different style plays when the player is in a different car class. Electronic will play while in a tuner car, Rock for a muscle car and Hip Hop for an exotic car.
